The two jobs of a kids' portable
The NBA and USA Basketball youth standard puts ages 7-8 on an 8-foot rim, 9-11 on 9 feet and 12 up on 10. A portable for a seven-year-old therefore needs 8 feet today and 10 feet in five years, and it needs a lift the child can work, because a rim that only moves when a parent is home stays at whatever height it was left.
