The two jobs of a kids' portable
The NBA and USA Basketball youth standard puts ages 7-8 on an 8-foot rim, 9-11 on 9 feet and 12 up on 10. A portable for a seven-year-old therefore needs 8 feet today and 10 feet in five years, and it needs a lift the child can work, because a rim that only moves when a parent is home stays at whatever height it was left. Stability with kids
Kids hang on nets. A 27-gallon base filled with water (about 225 lb) is enough for a 7-year-old and not for a 12-year-old swinging from the rim; a 35-gallon base with sand is roughly 400 lb and is. The Silverback NXT bolts its pole to a steel frame under the base for exactly this reason. Set the rim to the standard, not to the kid's wish
Eight feet at 7, nine at 10, ten at 12. Lower rims teach form; that is the standard's stated reason. Hoop height by age.
Match the ball
Size 5 (27.5 in) for 7-8, size 6 (28.5) for 9-11. Basketball size by age.
Polycarbonate is correct for kids
It does not shatter when a bat hits it and it costs a third of glass. The rebound is softer; kids do not notice. Glass comes with the in-ground at 13.
A return net at 10
The year they shoot alone is the year the ball rolls into the street. Training aids for kids.
