Why a light over the goal
A floodlight on the garage lights the shooter's back and throws the pole's shadow across the lane; a light on the pole below the board lights the driveway and not the rim. Escalade's hoop lights use an arm that extends over the top of the goal and points down, which puts the light on the backboard, the rim and the court and, in their words, keeps it “out of players' eyes.” All three are solar with internal lithium-ion cells, so there is no extension cord across the driveway, and all three are 4,000 lumens per the product pages. The differences are fit, motion mode and the auto-off.
The numbers
Run time, honestly
None of the three pages publishes hours of light from a full charge, and we will not guess. What they do say: the Silverback and Goaliath lights turn off automatically after two hours “to save unwanted battery loss,” the Goalrilla has a motion mode that can be turned off, and all three ship a remote that needs two AAA batteries you supply. A solar panel on a hoop in a shaded driveway charges slowly; if the panel will not see sun, expect fewer evenings per charge than a south-facing one, and ask Escalade for the run-time figure before you buy.

Buyer's guide: hoop lights
Check the pole and the model
Goalrilla's light lists 5x5, 6x6 and 6x8 poles and excludes its own Fixed Height and DC72E1. The Silverback and Goaliath lights list 4x4 square and 3.5-inch round poles and say they are not compatible with Goalrilla. A Static Shot damper on a Goaliath or Silverback pole ships with spacers for the light.
Light is not a yard guard
Evening play sends more balls into the dark street. Yard guards fit the same poles and mount below the light.
Neighbors
A downward light over the goal spills less than a floodlight, and the two-hour auto-off is the built-in curfew. Point the remote at the light before 9 p.m. anyway.
Winter
Short days and snow on the panel mean less charge; the Escalade pages do not publish a cold-weather rating, so treat December output as a bonus, not a plan.

What is the best light for a basketball hoop?
A solar LED that mounts over the goal and points down: Goalrilla's 4,000-lumen light for 5x5 to 6x8 Goalrilla poles, or the Silverback / Goaliath 4,000-lumen lights for 4x4 square and 3.5-inch round poles. None fits a portable.
Do solar basketball hoop lights work?
All three here are solar with internal lithium-ion cells, a remote and (Silverback/Goaliath) a two-hour auto-off. None of the makers publishes hours per charge; a panel in shade charges slowly.
Does the Goalrilla hoop light fit a Silverback?
No. Goalrilla's page lists 5x5, 6x6 and 6x8 poles and excludes Goaliath and Silverback; the Silverback and Goaliath lights fit 4x4 and 3.5-inch round poles and exclude Goalrilla.
Can you put a light on a portable basketball hoop?
Not these; they mount to in-ground square or round poles. A plug-in floodlight aimed from the side, or a clamp light on a fence, is the usual portable answer.
