Why a light over the goal
A floodlight on the garage lights the shooter's back and throws the pole's shadow across the lane; a light on the pole below the board lights the driveway and not the rim. All three lights here use an arm or a frame that reaches over the top of the goal and points down, which puts the light on the backboard, the rim and the court instead of in the shooter's eyes. What separates them is the pole they clamp to and where the power comes from: one is solar, two are mains.
The numbers
Run time, honestly
The Silverback page does not publish hours of light from a full charge, and we will not guess. What it does say: the light turns off automatically after two hours “to save unwanted battery loss,” and the remote needs two AAA batteries you supply. A solar panel on a hoop in a shaded driveway charges slowly; if the panel will not see sun, expect fewer evenings per charge than a south-facing one, and ask Escalade for the run-time figure before you buy. The HOMEPEDIA and Skywin lights sidestep the question entirely by running off mains power — they are as bright on the tenth grey day as the first — and the Skywin's output is dimmable. Neither publishes a lumen figure, so we are not printing one.

Check the pole and the model
This is the whole decision. The Silverback light lists 4x4 square and 3.5-inch round poles and says it is not compatible with Goalrilla. The HOMEPEDIA kit lists 4x4, 5x5 and 5.5x5.5 square and 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5-inch round. The Skywin stand lists square poles up to 4 inches and round up to 3.7, and its own listing warns in capitals to measure first. Nothing here publishes a fit for a 6x6 or 6x8 pole.
Light is not a yard guard
Evening play sends more balls into the dark street. Yard guards fit the same poles and mount below the light.
Neighbors
A downward light over the goal spills less than a floodlight, and on the Silverback the two-hour auto-off is a built-in curfew. The two mains-powered lights have no curfew at all, so set your own and switch them off before 9 p.m.
Winter
Short days and snow on the panel mean less charge for the solar light; Escalade publishes no cold-weather rating, so treat December output as a bonus, not a plan. A plug-in light does not care what month it is, which is the strongest argument for running the cord.

Do solar basketball hoop lights work?
The Silverback light runs on internal lithium-ion cells charged by its own panel, with a remote and a two-hour auto-off. Escalade does not publish hours per charge, and a panel in shade charges slowly — which is why the other two picks here are mains-powered instead.
Will a hoop light fit a Goalrilla pole?
Only if its fit list says so. The Silverback light lists 4x4 square and 3.5-inch round and states it is not compatible with Goalrilla. The HOMEPEDIA kit lists 5x5 and 5.5x5.5 square, which covers most of the Goalrilla line. Nothing here publishes a 6x6 or 6x8 fit.
Can you put a light on a portable basketball hoop?
