What NXT and SBX mean

On goalrilla.com, the NXT name covers four hoops: NXT 50 Portable ($499.95 sale), NXT 54 Portable ($599.95 sale), NXT 54 In Ground ($569.95) and NXT 60 In Ground ($769.95 sale). All have polycarbonate boards; the portables have the Stabili-Frame chassis and a slanted 3.5-inch pole; the in-grounds are a 3.5-inch round pole set directly in concrete, and their pages say they are not compatible with the Silverback Yard Guard or Anchor Kit. The SBX name currently covers the SBX 60 in-ground ($999.95 sale): 60x33 tempered glass, a 4x4 powder-coated pole, 2.5 feet of overhang, a 7-inch bolt-down anchor kit, backboard and pole pads, and a medium-weight breakaway rim. An SBX 54 portable existed but is no longer listed on Escalade's or Goalrilla's current pages; the NXT 54 is its successor.

NXT 50 vs NXT 54

Same frame, same actuator, same 90-minute claim, same tilt-and-roll base. The 54 has four more inches of board and, per its page, a 2.5-foot overhang giving 26 inches of clear space; the 50's page does not publish overhang. The 54 costs $100 more at sale price. If the slab is a single car wide, the 50-inch board stays over the pavement; if it is two cars, the 54 is the one to buy and the one that appears in most of our rankings.

NXT 60 vs SBX 60 in-ground

Two hundred and thirty dollars at sale price separates them, and it buys three things: tempered glass instead of polycarbonate, a square 4x4 pole on an anchor plate instead of a round pole in concrete, and pads plus accessory compatibility. The NXT 60's advantages are the price and Escalade's 90-minute assembly claim. For a hoop that will be there ten years, the SBX 60 is the one; best in-ground hoops under $1,000 ranks both against the Goaliaths and the SB54.

Accessories and compatibility

The Silverback Yard Guard lists SB60, SB60 Ghost, SB54, SB54iG, SBX60, SBX54 and SBX54iG, plus Goaliath and Hoopstar 4x4 poles. The Silverback and Goaliath solar lights fit 4x4 square and 3.5-inch round poles. The NXT in-grounds say on their pages they are not compatible with the Yard Guard or the anchor kit. The Silverback Standard and Deluxe breakaway rims list every NXT, GoTek and SBX model; the Goalrilla medium-weight rim lists the SB and SBX glass hoops. Buy for the model, not the badge.
