The tiers under $500
Prices are the makers' where published (Escalade lists the NXT 50 at $499.95 sale, $589.95 regular; Lifetime publishes none) and Amazon's otherwise, which the buttons show live. Under $200: a 44-inch HDPE board on a 27-gallon base (Lifetime 90040). Under $300: a 50-inch polycarbonate board on a 35-gallon base with a Slam-It breakaway rim and one-hand Action Grip (Lifetime 71566). Under $500: a 54-inch board with Power Lift (Lifetime 71524) or, at the ceiling, the Silverback NXT 50 with the Stabili-Frame steel chassis. The NXT 54 sits just over at $599.95 and is the same hoop with a wider board; it is here because a sale price sometimes brings it under, and because it is the one most people should be saving for.
The numbers
Silverback NXT versus Lifetime, at this price
The NXT's argument is structural: the slanted pole connects directly to a steel frame below the base, and Escalade's page says outright that a standard blow-molded base “is typically the first piece to crack and fail.” Lifetime's argument is the lift: Power Lift and Action Grip move the rim one-handed in infinite (71524) or 6-inch (71566) increments, and Lifetime states a 5-year warranty on its page, where Escalade's NXT pages state none (dealers list 7 years). If the hoop will be moved to a new height weekly by a nine-year-old, Lifetime. If it will be set at 10 feet and dunked on by a fourteen-year-old, Silverback.

Assembly time is a real difference
Escalade claims 90 minutes for the NXT, partially pre-assembled. Lifetime's pages do not state a time. How to assemble a portable hoop.
Budget $60 for a weight bag if the driveway is exposed
Silverback's universal weight bag holds 100 lb of sand on top of most bases. Wind and tipping.
Above $500
