Why 60 inches is the driveway size
A regulation board is 72 inches wide; a 60 is five feet. On a two-car driveway of 20 to 24 feet, a 60-inch board centered on the slab leaves 7 to 9 feet of pavement on each side, which is enough to take a 15-foot bank shot from either wing without standing on the grass. A 72 adds a foot of glass that only matters from the corners, and most driveways do not have corners. A 54 is fine for one car and feels small for two. Lifetime's own backboard guide puts its tempered glass boards at 50, 54, 60 and 72 and describes glass as the size and material for competitive practice; Goalrilla makes 54, 60 and 72 in every series. Sixty is where both makers put the middle of the range, and it is where most families should land. 54 vs 60 vs 72 has the width table.
The numbers
Pole and overhang at 60 inches
A 60-inch board is heavier than a 54, and the pole has to carry it further out. Goalrilla moves from 5x5 on the FT54 to 5.5x5.5 on the FT60 and GS60C for that reason. The Silverback SB60, SBX 60 and Goaliath Ignite keep the 4x4 pole they share with their 54-inch siblings and hold overhang at 2 to 2.5 feet; the FT60 gives 3.5 feet. The Mega Slam 60 is a 6x6 pole at 5-gauge with 36 inches of overhang at 10 feet and 52 inches at 7.5 feet (the overhang grows as the rim comes down, because the arm pivots). If the hoop will see adult play, the pole-and-overhang column above is the one to read first.
On install: all four Amazon-sold glass picks are bolt-down. The Goalrillas use the 9-inch anchor (16-inch hole, 48 inches deep, eleven bags per Goalrilla's guide); the Silverback and Goaliath use the 7-inch anchor (16-inch hole, 36 inches deep, nine bags per the SB60 manual). The NXT 60 is direct-bury and permanent.

Buyer's guide: 60 inches, chosen once
Measure the slab twice
Stand where the pole would go and measure to each edge. If either side is under 7 feet, a 60-inch board will put shots from that wing onto the grass; consider the 54. If both sides are over 12 feet and the driveway runs 30 feet deep, the 72 starts to make sense. Where to put a basketball hoop covers the garage door, the street and the neighbors.
Lifetime versus five years, in dollars
The GS60C is $2,049.95 with a lifetime warranty that its product page says includes the glass. The SB60 is $1,099.95 with 5 years on the page and 7 in the manual. The difference is $950 for thicker glass, a bigger pole and the longer term. If the hoop is a ten-year purchase, the Goalrilla is cheaper per year of coverage; if it is a five-year purchase, the Silverback is the better deal.
The direct-only option
The Mega Slam 60 out-specs everything here on glass thickness and pole gauge, and Mega Slam's lifetime term says it covers dunking and hanging, which Escalade's terms exclude. It is sold direct, weighs 600 lb, and its spec page does not publish a price or a hole size. We link it plainly and earn nothing on it; Goalrilla vs Mega Slam is the full comparison.
Add the yard guard while the pole is bare
Goalrilla's Yard Guard fits its 5.5x5.5 pole; the Silverback Yard Guard fits the 4x4 SB60, SBX 60 and Ignite. Neither fits the round-pole NXT 60. Yard guards and driveway nets has the compatibility lists.

Is a 60-inch backboard big enough?
For a driveway, yes. It is five feet wide, which covers bank shots from either wing on a two-car slab. Regulation 72 inches only adds value when you shoot from the corners, which needs a playable area about 30 feet wide.
