Spec by spec
The galvanized pole
Every hoop in this hub is powder-coated steel, and Goalrilla's warranty sheet excludes “paint or rusted parts” while offering paint kits. Mega Slam's 72 page describes an 8x6 pole of 5-gauge steel that is hot-dipped galvanized under the finish, with stainless hardware and twelve gussets at the base. Hot-dip galvanizing is a zinc layer bonded to the steel; where powder coat chips, bare steel rusts, and where galvanizing chips, the zinc still protects. Mega Slam does not publish a rust-specific warranty term on the page we read, but the construction is the answer to the ground-line rust that owners of powder-coated poles commonly report after a decade. Rust prevention covers what you can do about it on any hoop.
Range, rim and the backboard guarantee
Goalrilla runs 7.5 to 10 feet. Mega Slam runs 5 to 10 with lift-assist cylinders (two on the 72, one on the 60), and its 60 page publishes the overhang at each height: 36 inches at 10 feet, 52 at 7.5, 48 at 5. The Mega Slam rim is an 18-inch Collegiate Flex single-pivot breakaway rated at 1,100 lb of torque, with a 180 Pro Rim upgrade; Goalrilla's is the heavy-weight breakaway with a 180 upgrade of its own. Mega Slam's “No-Break Backboard Protection” is a one-time replacement guarantee for play or non-play incidents; Goalrilla's GS-series pages say the lifetime term includes the glass, while the FT pages say limited lifetime without singling glass out.
Install and delivery
Goalrilla publishes the hole (16 by 48 inches), the bags (eleven), the cure (72 hours) and the crew (three to four adults). Mega Slam's 72 page lists an anchor kit with four J-bolts and rebar and a 745-lb shipping weight; the 60 is 600 lb; neither page lists hole dimensions or bag counts. Both offer free continental-US shipping on the pages we read, but a 745-lb crate is a liftgate delivery and, for most families, a contractor install. We link Mega Slam plainly and earn nothing on it. Installation cost has the hired-install numbers.
