Basketball hoop brands explained: who makes what, and which tier you are looking at

Escalade Sports: Goalrilla, Goaliath and Silverback

One company in Evansville, Indiana, three brands, all sold on goalrilla.com. Goalrilla is the premium tier: one-piece 5x5 to 6x6 poles, 3/8-inch tempered glass, 2.5 to 4 feet of overhang, a 9-inch anchor kit, and a limited lifetime warranty on structural components for the original owner (rims excluded, hanging voids it). The FT series (FT54, FT60, FT72) is the mainline; the GS series (GS54C, GS60C, GS72C) trades some overhang and rim weight for a lower price and a page that says the lifetime term includes the glass; the CV series adds Clear View boards and bundled pads. Silverback is the mid tier: single-piece 4x4 poles, 5/16-inch glass at 54 and 60 inches (SB54, SB60, SBX 60), a 7-inch anchor, pads in the box, 5-year terms on the pages and 7 in the SB60 manual. Goaliath sits beside Silverback: two-piece 4x4 poles on the glass Ignite 60 and Prodigy 54, 2 feet of overhang, 5-year terms, and steep sale prices. Below both, Silverback's NXT and Goaliath's GoTek are direct-bury 3.5-inch round poles with polycarbonate boards from $570 to $770, plus the NXT portables.

Lifetime

Lifetime Products (Utah) is the volume brand in portables and mid-price in-grounds. Its signatures: Power Lift and Action Grip one-hand height adjustment, Slam-It breakaway rims with a wraparound brace, steel-framed polycarbonate or tempered glass boards from 44 to 72 inches, and a stated 5-year limited warranty on most basketball systems (glass breakage excluded). Its published install guide asks for a smaller footing than Escalade's: a round hole 21-24 inches deep and 18-24 inches across with 420-640 lb of concrete for in-ground systems. Weak spot: the product pages are thin on overhang, base capacity and list price, so a dealer spec sheet is often the only place to find them.

Spalding

The NBA's ball brand also makes hoops: the “888” in-ground (54/60/72 glass, 5- or 6-inch pole, 3- or 4-foot offset, U-Turn Pro lift down to 7 feet), the acrylic U-Turn in-ground with a ground sleeve, The Beast portable (glass or acrylic, 40- or 55-gallon base, screw-jack lift) and the Momentous EZ Assembly portables (30-minute assembly claim). The hardware is competitive; the paper is not: Spalding's published warranty for basketball systems is one year, original purchaser, personal use only, with rust and weather deterioration excluded. Goalsetter, Pro Dunk and Mega Slam: the direct sellers

Three makers build heavier hoops than anything on Amazon and sell them from their own sites or dealers. Goalsetter (USA-built): 6x6 one-piece poles with 3/16-inch walls, a hinged ground anchor that two or three people can tip up, internal adjustment from 6 to 10 feet, limited lifetime. Pro Dunk: 1/2-inch glass, 6x6 poles with 7/32-inch walls, adjustment from 5 feet, a lifetime term that covers dunking and hanging, and a 20-inch square, 15-20 bag install. Mega Slam: 1/2-inch glass, 5-gauge poles up to 8x6 and hot-dip galvanized, 5 to 10 feet, lifetime covering dunking plus a one-time backboard replacement.
