The verdict
Spec by spec
Glass and pole
Both boards are 72x42. Goalrilla's is 3/8-inch tempered glass; Goalsetter offers tempered glass or acrylic and does not list thickness on the MVP page. Both poles are 6x6 one-piece steel; Goalsetter publishes a seven-gauge (3/16-inch) wall and Goalrilla does not publish wall thickness. Both give 4 feet of overhang. On the spec sheet the two are the same class of hoop, which is why the install and the range decide it.
The hinged anchor
Goalrilla's anchor is a plate with four J-bolts; the pole stands on the bolts and the manual says placing the post “requires at least four capable adults” because “the pole will want to lean.” Goalsetter's Ground Anchor Hinge System is a 4-foot by 6-inch square anchor set in the concrete; the pole bolts to it lying down and pivots up, which Goalsetter says lets two to three people assemble it. For a seventy-two-inch board on a 6x6 pole, that is the difference between a crew and a family.
Height range: 6 feet versus 7.5
Goalrilla adjusts 7.5 to 10 feet with an external crank. Goalsetter adjusts 6 to 10 with an internal compression mechanism inside the pole, which it says removes pinch and grab points. The NBA and USA Basketball youth standard recommends an 8-foot basket for ages 7-8 and 9 feet for 9-11, so both cover the standard; the Goalsetter's 6-foot floor is for younger kids and for adults working on dunks. Hoop height by age has the table.

Can you buy Goalsetter on Amazon?
